Commercial Shipping Law
Commercial Shipping Law provides a practical introduction to the legal and commercial frameworks that support global maritime trade. The course offers a clear overview of the core IMO Conventions that shape safety, environmental protection, seafarer competence, ship stability, and casualty response.
Participants will also explore the major regimes governing the carriage of goods by sea, including the Hague, Hague-Visby, Hamburg, and Rotterdam Rules, and gain practical insight into how INCOTERMS operate in commercial transactions. Also covered will be the core charterparty types (time, voyage, and bareboat) and gain familiarity with BIMCO’s widely used standard contracts. The course also covers key aspects of maritime operations, including salvage, Lloyd’s Open Form and SCOPIC, and the principles of General Average. This course is designed to keep participants actively engaged, building confidence throughout the programme.
